From some perspectives both within and outside the leather community, leather contests can seem pretty strange. It helps to remember that leather contests are about leadership. They are about finding and encouraging those men in the leather community who want to play on a bigger stage. That stage might be at their local bar or club or can be as big as the international stage. For some, it is their entry point into the leather community, for others it is about recognizing years of development and contribution. It may not be the most logical way to encourage leaders but it seems to work and it seems to be a lot of fun.
Bob Johnson, Mr. LA Leather 2006 with Tom Wang, Mr. Christopher Street West Leather 2007.
Mr. Christopher Street West Leather is a key player in CSW’s ongoing support and outreach to the Leather community. Tom Wang, Mr. Christopher Street West Leather 2007 was crowned at Erotic City last year. This year he is helping to produce the contest at which he will step down and crown the next man to take on his role as a leader in the leather community. Tom demonstrated his leadership and sprit through out his title year and was recognized by other 9 contestants at this year’s Mr. Los Angeles Leather contest with the Brotherhood Award.
If you think you can sum up your perspective on life and leather in 90 seconds, make jokes while wearing “bar wear”…hell if you just wonder what “bar wear” is, then join us in Erotic City for the Mr. Christopher Street West Leather contest happening through out the day on Saturday. Come help cheer on those who have decided to step up on that stage and make a difference. If you have decided it is your time to take that step then contact us at EroticCity@lapride.org. Either way, know that whoever walks in the parade on Sunday is taking the first steps in a fun and fascinating journey.
